The Passover
Feasting amidst of chaos
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Exodus 10–12
Abbreviated Reading: Exodus 11:1-10; 11:17-39
What an eerie scene we find in today’s reading, unless... you were in the camp of God’s people. While the rest of Egypt was covered in darkness and experiencing death, Israel was safe behind the doors where the blood was applied. There they were protected, eating a feast, and anticipating freedom.
Like Israel was spared death because, in faith they marked their doorposts with the blood of the Passover lamb – so too, we are spared eternal death because of Jesus’ blood poured out on our lives.
For as much as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things…But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 1 Peter 1:18-19
Jesus was the perfect Lamb of God, sacrificed for the sins of the world. He was without sin, the spotless Lamb of God. Like the lamb on Passover, Jesus was inspected and without fault. He was the perfect fulfillment of Passover and it is His blood that covers our sins and redeems us.
Jesus was the substitute for our sin (Gen 22:13; 1 Peter 2:24, 25; 1 Cor 15:3); His blood is the atonement for our sin (Lev 17:11; Hebrews 9:22); He gave Himself as the lamb (Gen 22:8; John 1:29; 1 Peter 1:18, 19); was sacrificed (Ex 12:13; Rom 5:8, 9); He had no sin, was the perfect fulfillment of the unleaven bread that was eaten with the sacrificed lamb (Ex 12:21-27; 1 Cor 5:7); and His blood saves us from eternal death (Ex 12:30; Rom 6:23).
REJOICE, we've been Redeemed!
Our days and nights no longer are eerie, but like Israel on that first Passover, there is protection, we can eat at the Lord’s Table, celebrate our freedom from sin, and anticipate His return.
You can listen to a Passover teaching I gave, "Jesus Reversed the Curse." It's sure to bless and encourage you as you consider God's plans, protection, and ALL we have in Christ.
