The parallels in today’s reading are endless. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. How He cared for His people in the Old Testament revealed His character and His unfailing love for us.
The following chapters are full of redemption and God's power in our lives!
Just like He delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt, He has delivered us from the bondage of sin! (Exodus 13:9)
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. Romans 6:18
Just like He gave Israel a feast (the Passover) to remind them of His love and provision – He has given us a feast whereby we remember His ultimate love and provision. (Exodus 12:42-50)
And when he had given thanks, he brake [it], and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me... For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till He come. 1 Corinthians 11:24, 26
He led Israel along the way and He leads us today. (Exodus 13: 17, 18)
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. John 10:27-28
He told His people to keep His law on their lips (Exodus 13:9). He tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thess 5:17), preach the Word (2 Tim 4:2), exhort one another and to continually praise Him (Heb 3:13, 15).
He fought Israel’s battles for them and conquered sin and death for us. (Exodus 14:14)
Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. Colossians 2:15
…Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:54-55, 57
Truly He is an unchanging God and cares for us!
In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. Exodus 15:13
