More than Conquerors
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Judges 18; Judges 3:7-4:24
Abbreviated Reading: Judges 18
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37
Today’s reading is full of conquerors and the conquered. Just like God gave Israel victory over their enemies, He has given us victory over sin. Israel didn't have to live in bondage, it was their choice whether to choose God’s ways or put themselves under the oppression of their enemies.
God had freed Israel from their enemies before, but they slowly went back. Being attracted to the world around them, they made alliances and again found themselves bound, indebted and oppressed by their enemies.
What a potent warning for our own lives. God redeemed us and made us new. He freed us from our old man. Nevertheless, we can be attracted to the world around us - which leads to sin, which leads to bondage, which is oppressive. God knows this and that’s why He warns His kids to stay far away from sin.
Just like God sent Judges to conquered Israel’s enemies, He has sent us the Holy Spirit and made us more than conquerors.
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
