How to Hear from the Lord
Today's Through the Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 3-5
Abbreviated Reading: 1 Samuel 3
“And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.” 1 Samuel 3:10
Do you ever feel spiritually dry and thirsty? Have you ever asked where God is or why you aren’t experiencing Him in a fresh way? I've certainly gone through spiritually "dry" times and find it is a good time to ask whether I'm drinking from His Word and putting myself in a position to hear His voice.
A great example of this, and one of my favorite verses, is found in today’s Bible reading:
And the child Samuel grew and ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision. 1 Samuel 3:1
How true this is…How precious the Word of the Lord is in these last days. Can you relate to the Psalmist as he expressed his desire for the Lord...
Bow down thy ear, O Lord, hear me; for I am poor and needy. Psalm 81:1
Have you ever said that? Have you ever cried out: “God I need you right now! I need to know what to do. I need to know where to go... I NEED YOU!!!”
O when the Lord answers those cries! The soft spoken Word of the Lord is precious.
“Why don't I hear it then?” you might ask. Are you in a position to hear?
I believe Samuel positioned himself to hear God’s Word. How so? Simple. He was in the tabernacle, serving the Lord, hearing the High Priest, opening and shutting the doors daily, volunteering his time at the Lord’s house. How important it is for us to get plugged in to church and to serve the body of Christ. Share about the Lord! Tell of His good works.
He promises to answer when we call and He cannot lie! He is faithful and if we seek Him, we will find Him.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. Psalm 91:15
