Forgiven

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Mark 2:1-28; Matthew 9:1-17 and 12:1-8; Luke 5:17-32 and 6:1-5

“Say to those who are fearful-hearted, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come…He will come and save you.’ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped…” Isaiah 35:4-6

God kept the promise He made hundreds of years earlier in Isaiah 35 and sent His Son. Jesus healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, caused the deaf to hear, and extended forgiveness of sins and everlasting life to those who would follow Him.

When Jesus saw their faith, He said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven’. Luke 5:20

In today’s Bible reading we’re reminded of our greatest need – FORGIVENESS. Jesus is not only able to heal our physical infirmities, but provides our greatest need of all, forgiveness of our sins.

We broke the law and owed a penalty we could not pay (Isa 64:6; Rom 3:20-23, 6:23; Gal 3:11; Jas 2:10). But, Jesus paid the penalty for us (Rom 4:25, 5:9; Gal 2:16, 3:13; Titus 2:14). God forgives us, declaring us not guilty of sin (Isa 61:10; Acts 13:39; Rom 3:24-26).

The record that detailed our sins is destroyed. (Ps 103:12; Isa 43:25; Acts 3:19; Col 2:14).

Like the lame man in today’s reading we can now leap for joy! We are FORGIVEN!  We are cleansed from all sin (I Jn 1:7) and God remembers our sin no more (Heb 10:17). We have peace with God through Jesus (Rom 5:1). There is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Rom. 8:1).

Amazing love how sweet the sound of the words, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:20)
