Little Becomes Much
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Mark 6:12-44; Matt. 14:1-21; Luke 9:6-17; John 6:1-15
Today’s devotion is an excerpt from my new book Jesus, Day by Day - Enjoy!
“He said, ‘Bring them here to Me.’” Matthew 14:18
Have you found it to be true that whatever you have to give God, He will gladly receive and multiply for use in a way that brings Him glory and at the same time ministers to people practically? That’s exactly what Jesus did in today’s famous reading about a little boy who brought Jesus his five small barley loaves and two small fishes. Jesus took that little lunch and miraculously fed a multitude.
Consider, too, the twelve men who left all they had in order to follow Jesus. Jesus took those twelve ordinary men and, minus Judas, transformed them into apostles that He would use to forever shape the course of history.
Jesus chose a despised tax collector, several uneducated fishermen, and a bunch of Galileans, who were not normally counted among Israel’s elites. Yet, Jesus used these meager, sometimes mocked, and maybe ridiculed men to share the greatest message in all of the history of humanity!
“And they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.” Mark 6:12–13
God uses the small and weak things of this world to confound the wise.
“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.” 1 Corinthians 1:27
Whether it’s our resources, like the little boy’s loaves and fishes, or our very lives, like those of the disciples, Jesus sure can do a lot with a little. He uses the ordinary to accomplish the extraordinary.
Whatever you have to give Jesus, regardless of how small it may be, give it to Him gladly today. Then watch and see what He does with it!
