Second Chances

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 29:1 - 31:29

Abbreviated Reading: Deuteronomy 31:1-29

In today’s reading we find Israel coming full circle. They are right back where they were 40 years previously, camped across the Jordan facing Jericho. Now, we know how the story ends... how God triumphed over those giants and the walls came tumbling down. But put yourself in Israel’s sandals.  This is the place that caused them great distress and led to 40 years of wandering. Because they doubted God and choose to shrink back in fear, they wondered for a long time. But God is faithful and brings them back around to teach them to walk in faith, so that He could bring them into a good land – The Promised Land.

Here in lies our lesson, God is faithful to bring us back to our personal "Jordans" where perhaps we didn't trust the first time, but have the chance to step out in obedience again and watch God go before us, part the sea, topple the walls, and destroy the giants.

It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. Deuteronomy 31:8

We can choose Life and follow God’s way and His lead. Like Israel, He’s taking us to a good land!

I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life… Deuteronomy 30:19

Jesus came to give us LIFE! New life (2 Cor 5:17); Abundant life (John 10:10); Everlasting Life (John 3:15); and Everything pertaining to life (2 Pt 1:3).  We are complete in Him! (Col 2:9)
