Follow Where He Leads
Today's Through the Bible Reading: Numbers 8 - 10
Abbreviated Reading: Numbers 9
“At the commandment of the Lord they rested…and at the commandment of the Lord they journeyed…” Numbers 9:23
God wanted Israel to follow Him, love Him, and be fully devoted to Him. He led them through the wilderness, parted the seas, fought their battles, and provided every step of the way. All Israel had to do was follow His lead. Israel was covered by God’s Spirit via a cloud (Ex. 13:21, 22), and this covering kept them safe from the desert’s scorching sun (Ps. 105:39). What an obvious and practical indication of God’s direction and guidance! All Israel had to do to “cool down” and to “chill out,” so to speak, was stay under the cloud.
Whether it was two days, a month, or a year that the cloud remained above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would remain encamped and not journey…At the command of the LORD they remained encamped, and at the command of the LORD they journeyed; they kept the charge of the LORD… Numbers 9:22, 23
As New Testament believers, we are led by the same protective Spirit of the Lord. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit, who would comfort, teach, and lead (John 14:26). Just as Israel remained under the cloud, we abide in Christ and are under the shadow of His wing (Ps. 36:7). Jesus sent His Spirit, who testifies and continually points us to the Son (John 15:26; 1 John 4:13).
“But the Comforter…He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26
May we, in all our travels, watch and go where God is leading.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
May you allow Jesus, through His Spirit, to guide you through your wilderness and protect you from the heat of the day. May you submit to God’s practical leading and guiding and in so doing, abide under the “cool” cloud of His counsel.Study His Word and let Him lead and guide your steps.
