Today's Through the Bible Reading: 1 Kings 11; Ecclesiastes 1- 2
Abbreviated Reading: Ecclesiastes 1-2
Only God makes the old new; gives life to the dead; restores the broken heart; brings hope to the hopeless; purpose to the lost; and transforms the reprobate mind into wisdom.
That's awesome!
In today's Through the Bible reading we start the book of Ecclesiastes. Although God told Solomon not to marry a wife from the godless nations around him - he disobeyed (1 Kings 11:1-4). Disobedience is like planting weeds in our life and they will grow thorn bushes that lead to unpleasant fields. Solomon's disobedience turned his heart away from the Lord and led to depression - as reflected in Ecclesiastes when he says "all is utterly meaningless" (Ecc 1:2).
When our eyes are fixed on Jesus and our heart wholly devoted to Him, we find meaning, purpose, and hope (Heb 12:2).
Focus on Him today and fill your heart and mind with His Word. Then you will be full of purpose and hope.
Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity]. Psalm 1:1-3
