The Enemy of Peace

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: 2 Kings 9:1-10:27; 2 Chronicles 22:7-12

Abbreviated Reading: 2 Kings 9

In today’s  Bible reading, there is a new king anointed over Israel. King Jehu was a godly king, who's heart was towards the Lord and His ways. Jehu considers this truth and proclaims it to the people in Israel:

How can there be peace…as long as all the idolatry…is around? 2 Kings 9:22

This was true in Israel and it’s true in our own lives.  Idolatry is anything that is above or supersedes our devotion or adoration to and for God. Affections and attentions set on sin are dirty and burdensome and robs God’s people of peace.

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. Hebrews 1:9

Sanctification brings gladness. It is the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Restoring our dead consciences and instituting the process of becoming more like Jesus. Sin has pleasure for a moment, but always leads to heartache, sorrow and death (Pr 16:25; Rom 6:23). BUT, there is a way of peace, joy, and abundant life, it's the King's highway.

Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert...And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those... And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Isaiah 35:6-8, 10

God's Word washes our mind as it transforms our heart. So read, wash up, and let Jesus fill your life!
