Re-Focus
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Hebrews 6:1 – 10:18
Only 2 days till Jesus' birthday. Perhaps you find yourself a bit distracted today by holiday preparations. There's a lot to do and God knows how easily His kids get distracted. That is a large focus of the book of Hebrews. Just like we can get distracted by the work involved with the holidays, we can also get distracted by the works of law.
The book of Hebrews shifts the believer’s focus off of the law and onto Jesus and the grace we have received through His work on the cross. It was impossible for us to live up to God’s standard and obey the law. We all sinned and fell short of God’s glory (Isa 53:6; Ecc 7:20; Rom 3:10, 23). It was impossible for us to make up for our short coming and redeem ourselves (Jas 2:10). It was impossible for us to earn eternal life by our own efforts (Rom 6:23), and it is impossible for us to live like a Christian outside of the power of the Holy Spirit. So, what was and is impossible for man, is possible with God. What was impossible for us to accomplish, Jesus did for us on the cross.
So much of what Christ accomplished for us through His willingness to die and His ability and power to rise again is articulated in the book of Hebrews.
Here is just a glimpse of what Jesus did for us and what we have through His grace – all in the book of Hebrews.
Through Christ’s work on the cross...
God PROVED HIS LOVE(Heb 1:3)
He BECAME SIN and a CURSE (Heb. 2:9)
I am RECONCILED to God (Heb 10:14)
My SINS are BLOTTED OUT (Heb 9:28)
I will NEVER be SEPARATED from God (Heb 7:25)
By it I have...
Received God’s GRACE (Heb 2:9)
PEACE and FORGIVENESS (Heb 10:17)
NEW LIFE a New and Living Way (Heb 10:20)
ACCESS to God (Heb 4:16)
An ETERNAL INHERITANCE (Heb 9:15)
A CLEAN CONSCIENCE and NO CONDEMNATION (Heb 9:14)
A BETTER WAY and ABUNDANT LIFE (Heb 8:13; 10:4, 12:24)
Because of it I am...
WASHED and CLEANSED (Heb 1:3)
SAVED FROM WRATH (Heb 9:28)
DECLARED and MADE RIGHTEOUS (Heb 2:11)
Because of Christ’s work on the cross...
I have ETERNAL LIFE! (Heb 2:3; 4:3; 5:9; 13:14)
It’s a good day to sit at the foot of the cross and reflect on all Christ has done for us. Our precious Jesus is coming again. So get out that Bible, open it up and obey what you read, and live righteously as you eagerly anticipate His return.
