None Beside Him
Keeping the Lord front and Center
Today’s Through the Bible reading: Psalm 16, 101; 2 Samuel 5:6–25
Abreviated Reading: Psalm 16, 101
“You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.” Psalm 16:2 NASB
We have so much to be thankful for! God is our refuge, our counsel, our strength, our stability, our song. As you read the Scriptures today, consider how many things God says He is to us and provides for us.
Nothing in this world can really satisfy our souls. That deep desire for some sort of fulfillment you and I could never even put our finger on is found in the One who points His finger to you and me and says “You, follow me.” Only Jesus the Christ can give us everlasting life, quench our thirsty souls, and bring eternal satisfaction to our spirits. This was true for David too. He recognized that all the good he had was from God and apart from Him, he had nothing.
I said to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.’ Psalm 16:2 NIV
The same stands true for you and me. In Christ alone we find all we need (2 Pt. 1:3, 4). Jesus is the Living water, the Bread of life, the Light of the world, the Great I Am – which means Jesus is our all in all, the provider and fulfiller of our every need and the giver of every good thing.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17
Like David declared, you can echo, “Apart from you, Oh Lord, I have no good thing.” As you take in His Word today, consider who He is and what He has done for you. And in Christ alone, find satisfaction for today, tomorrow, and forever.
