Stay Close to the King
A picture of Jesus
Today's Through the Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 20; 1 Chronicles 22; Psalms 29, 30, 140
Abbreviated Reading: Psalms 29, 30, 140
"Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness." Psalm 29:2
Praise is a vital part of the Christian life. It keeps our hearts soft and our attitudes and perspective straight. Pride is self worship. Praise is the worship of the only one worthy of praise.
In today's reading we find a picture of this very principle. On David's long road back, in the aftermath of Absalom's revolt and death, David encounters yet more opposition. This time from "a troublemaker named Sheba." (2 Sam 20:1) As a result, all the men of Israel deserted David... except the men of Judah (vs 2).
Judah means Praise. Praise will keep our heart and loyalty close to our King!
We are told, the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem. May this be the account of our stories. May we stay close to our King all the way to our eternal Jerusalem. Soon and very soon we are going to see our King. May His praise ever be on our lips and our hearts found loyal to Him upon His return.
