Redeemer and King
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Isaiah 47 - 50
Today's reading foreshadows Christ our Redeemer both in His humility, as well as His authority and power. The prophet Isaiah, instructed by the Holy Spirit, so eloquently pens descriptions of both the babe from Bethlehem, as well as the reigning King of Kings.
...The Lord hath called me from the womb: from the bowels of my mother hath He made mention of my name... And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be His servant, to bring Jacob again to Him... Isaiah 49:1, 5
Humbling Himself, Christ became a man so that He could bring us again to Himself (Phil 2:8).
...I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:6
We know that Jesus came as a light to the world. He restored both physical and spiritual sight to those who walked in darkness (John 9:25, Matt 4:16, Eph 2:1-2).
And like Isaiah proclaimed, He will come again and reign eternal.
...That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. Isaiah 45:23
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11
Truly God is faithful to keep His promises. He is true to His Word. What He says, He will do. So when He proclaims that you are His, He means it. When He promises to protect and guide you, He will, and when He says He has gone to prepare a place for you (John 14:3) - He has.
Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands (Isa 49:16). I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that pulled out my beard: I hid not my face from shame and spitting (Isa 50:6). Because of your sins you were sold (Isa 50:1). But His arm was not too short to ransom you (Isa. 50:2).
God orchestrated His plan throughout history perfectly. It is HIS-STORY. Certainly He is able to guide our steps today!
This is what the Lord says, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea. Isaiah 48:17, 18
