He Breaks Up the Storm

Jesus seen in the book of Job

Today’s Through Bible Reading: Job 22-26

Abbreviated Reading: Job 23

We're reading through the Bible in chronological order. So, get out your Bible, read with us as We See Jesus!

He stirs up the sea with His power, And by His understanding He breaks up the storm. Job 26:12

Oh the powerful perspective of this verse. When we face a fierce storm and confusion rages as situations batter against our bow, HIS understanding breaks up the storm (Job 26:12). To look into God's Word, to see Jesus and gain understanding is to experience what the disciples did as Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves, be muzzled - and there was calm all around. (Mk 4:35-41)

The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130 NIV

The entire Bible, even the book of Job, turns our attention and points to Jesus Christ. Why? Because through Jesus we have been given all things (2 Pt 1:3; Col 2:10) and in HIM dwells the fullness of God (Col 2:9). Only in Him do we find understanding and purpose in the storms we face.

So, let's look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He is pictured, foreshadowed, and spoken of here in the book of Job. Here are some verses from today's reading that speak of our Savior, and then listed below is their New Testament fulfillment.

  • Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat! Job 23:3

By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:2

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrew 4:16

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, Hebrews 10:19

  • Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. Job 23:6

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Romans 8:34

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 1 Timothy 2:5

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, [which are] the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Hebrews 9:24

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 1 John 2:1

  • How much less man, that is a worm? And the son of man, which is a worm. Job 25:6

But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. Psalm 22:6

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Galatians 3:13

  • Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? But the thunder of his power who can understand? Job 26:14

Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? John 14:8, 9

Job longed to see his Redeemer, to know His name and to experience fellowship with Him. We know His name, it is the name above ALL names - Jesus. He lives in us and fellowships with us. We have access into His presence at any moment we choose to call on Him.
