The Wonderful Book of Nehemiah
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Nehemiah 1-4
The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build. Neh. 2:20
Today we start the book of Nehemiah. God’s Word is amazing. A single book or passage can be so multi-faceted and Nehemiah is no exception!
If you are looking for a crash course in leadership; comfort in a difficult situation; or are in over your head at work – this is your book. If something is burdening your heart and you don’t know what to do or how to seek direction; or if you desire more power in your life and a deeper walk – this is your book.
Nehemiah, whose name means “Comforter from God” is a picture of the Holy Spirit. He intercedes for the people and beseeches the King for supplies to complete the re-building of Jerusalem’s walls (Jn 14:26). Through the power of God’s might and “because the good hand of God” was upon him, Nehemiah was able to lead the people of God. This is what the Holy Spirit does for us (Rom 8:26).
We have a Comforter who like Nehemiah rebuilds walls and restores cracked foundations. Lives that once lay in ruin, God rebuilds. The Holy Spirit comforts (Jn 15:26), empowers (Acts 1:8), strengthens (2 Cor 12:9; 1 John 4:4)), and equips (1 Cor 2:10; 1 Jn 5:6). We who were once dead in trespasses and sins are now holy – heirs to the King of kings and Lord of lords (Eph 2). Remember the old song:
Heartaches, broken pieces, Ruined lives are why You died on Calvary. Your touch was what I longed for, You have given life to me.
Truly our lives have been redeemed, bought with the precious blood of Jesus; restored to newness of life. Praise the Lord we are new creations (2 Cor 5:17). Walls that were once broken are re-built and strengthened.
Dig into God’s Word today and rejoice that your life is being restored and you have the ultimate Comforter!
