Peace Despite Unrest
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: John 15-17; Mark 14:26-31; Matthew 26:30-35; Luke 22:31-38
As much as the world may tug at us and try to convince us that it has something to offer, it doesn't. Perhaps we may even find ourselves wanting to "fit in" and be like it, but we can’t – we’re different. Jesus told His disciples, “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” John 15:18, 19
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
We’ve been reborn and what satisfies us as a Christian is something other than what the world can offer. Our hope is in Christ and our peace passes understanding. Our Spirit has been brought to life and wants fellowship with God. There’s a war raging for our affections. It’s up to us to choose light over darkness, fellowship with God over loyalty to the world. (Matt 6:24; 2 Cor 6:14)
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1 Peter 2:9
Hebrews tells us that we have a Savior that can relate to our struggles (Heb 4:15). In today’s Bible Reading we find Jesus struggling in prayer as He faces the cross. As you spend time in His Word today, consider the cross and what He endured for the joy of your fellowship. (Heb 12:2)
