A Reflection of Wisdom

Today's Through the Bible Reading: 1 Kings 10:1–13; 2 Chronicles 9:1–12; Proverbs 1

Abbreviated Reading: Proverbs 1

“And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions.” 1 Kings 10:1

Surely the Queen of Sheba had wise men in her kingdom that she could have conferred with. But it was the fact that Solomon’s fame related directly to the name of the Lord that drew her all the way to Israel. The Queen of Sheba was particularly enticed by the fact that it was the Lord who gave Solomon his wisdom and whoever heard him inevitably got a glimpse of the true and living God.

What a marvelous picture of how the world can be drawn to God’s people. Christians, those in relationship with God, through His Son Jesus Christ, are filled with the knowledge of the Holy One and those who see us should get a glimpse of Him who saved us.

I love what the queen of Sheba said to king Solomon when she saw with her own eyes how God’s hand was on Israel.

“…The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes…How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! Praise be to the LORD your God, who has delighted in you…” 1 Kings 10:6-9 NIV

That is a remarkable response from a person who had encountered someone truly touched by God. O, that these would be the same words used to describe us as Christians! This sort of reaction only comes from the fruit of the Spirit in people who have allowed Him to rule and reign in their lives. Such lives, lived through the power of the Holy Spirit, will undoubtedly reflect the Son (James 3:17).

Because of the Lord’s eternal love, grace, and mercy, He has called you to Himself and has filled you with His Spirit. May you, like Solomon, walk in wisdom, shining forth His righteousness today so that all the world will see a glimpse of Him.
