Do You Hear Him Knocking
Today's Through the Bible Reading: Song of Solomon 5-8; Psalm 45; 1 Kings 5:1-12; 2 Chronicles 2:1-16
Abbreviated Reading: Song of Solomon 5-8
“…it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled…” Song of Solomon 5:2
Today we continue through the Song of Solomon, essentially an album comprised of snap-shots capturing the courtship and marriage of the king and his young bride. Like any relationship, heights of passion are countered with moments of daily life.
In one scene, the voice of the beloved groom is met with something close to indifference, and is certainly taken for granted by his bride. Solomon stands at the door, calling in affection to his maiden.
“Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled…” Song of Solomon 5:2
But she is already settled in for the night. Although she expresses her love for his voice, she does not rise and meet with him (Song. 5:3).
This should remind us of another Groom standing at the door, knocking. Jesus, in His letter to the seven churches, His bride, wrote similar words.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20
Jesus could not love you any more than He does. His passion and desire to fellowship with you drove Him to the cross (Heb. 12:2). Like Solomon, Jesus sees His bride as undefiled and perfect (Song 4:7), because we are clothed in His righteousness. As He calls to you today, answer His knock and find sweet fellowship with your Groom.
