A Faithful Husband

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Amos 7-9; Hosea 1-3

Abbreviated Reading: Hosea 1-3

"I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.” Hosea 2:20

How many of you know that the Lord Jesus Christ has taken us as His bride? It’s true! His promise to you and me is that we will know Him (1 Cor. 13:12) and He will be faithful (Rev. 19:6-9). And just like we’ve seen throughout the entire Old Testament, God, in His infinite goodness, gave us a picture of this principle.

Today’s reading is precisely that kind of picture as we read about the prophet Hosea. God’s word to Hosea was that He was to take an unfaithful wife, to love her, and despite her whoredom, to remain faithful to her.

Hosea’s wife, Gomer, failed to realize what her husband, Hosea, had done for her. Despite his commitment to cover her in love and protection, she continued to be unfaithful. Yet God told Hosea to remain faithful nonetheless. Why? Because God is faithful and He wanted to draw us a picture through the story of His servant Hosea.

“…Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites…” Hosea 3:1 NIV

Just think about that grace and mercy! Hosea’s constant love towards unfaithful Gomer shows us the depth of love and forgiveness our Heavenly Groom has towards us.

“I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy; I will betroth you to me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.” Hosea 2:19, 20

In loving-kindness, in mercy, in righteousness, your loving God has betrothed you. And His love is forever faithful.
