Wash in the Water of the Word
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: 2 Kings 14:7–14; 2 Chronicles 25:11–24; 2 Kings 5:1–7:2
"…Wash, and be clean” 2 Kings 5:13
In today’s reading we find yet another wonderful picture of salvation. And why wouldn’t we? Because, remember, Jesus is the very essence of the Scriptures. He can be found on every page and in every story. If we look for Him, we will find Him. After all He is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). And speaking of flesh, today’s reading contains an amazing account of a man named Naaman whose flesh was diseased with leprosy (a picture of sin) but was cleansed and made whole by simply washing in the water. This story is jam-packed full of pictures of our salvation through faith and the power of diving into the Word!
Naaman was a gentile commander in a foreign army. His request was that the Jewish prophet Elisha would heal him. A seemingly impossible request! But God is in the business of answering the seemingly impossible. As a result, the Lord, through Elisha, offered Naaman an unexpected path to restoration and healing – to wash in the Jordan River seven times (2 Kings 5:10).
Naaman, angered by the simplicity of the instruction, very reluctantly obeyed. But God wanted to paint a picture of the power of His plan of salvation – even for the gentile. Naaman received the simple instructions which lead to his complete and total healing.
You, dear Christian, like Naaman, have been offered a simple way to be restored, healed, and brought near to the family of God.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Acts 16:31
You have been redeemed and, like Naaman, you are being washed in the water of the Word and made whole.
“That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,” Ephesians 5:26
Believing in Jesus and reading your Bible may seem too simple – but they lead to restoration, healing, and cleansing - guaranteed!
