Perspective

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Proverbs 19 - 21

Is Your Perspective God’s Perspective?

“He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.” Proverbs 19:8

An encounter with the Lord does changes a person from the inside out! Being born again begins the process of sanctification – being transformed, day by day, into the likeness of Christ.

And herein lies the importance of feasting on God’s Word daily! God’s Word cleanses our minds, transforms our hearts, and provides a divinely inspired moral compass. And without a clean mind, transformed heart, and moral compass, the process of sanctification is significantly stunted.

As we continue reading in the book of Proverbs, be on the lookout for areas in which your standards or ideas differ from God’s. Are your opinions about what’s right and wrong the same as God’s? Are mine?

It’s exciting when the Holy Spirit shines His light on something and shows us areas to change – that’s sanctification.

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17

Today’s reading contains God’s perspective on a plethora of life situations. Just consider these few chapters in Proverbs and the vast array of life situations they address: family relationships (19:26), disciplining children (19:18), civil justice (19:28-29, 21:28), political realities (21:1, 20:26), military strategies (20:18); what to look for in a friend (20:19), good business practices (20:10, 21:5), the danger of a get-rich-quick scheme (20:21), the end result of alcohol (20:1), God’s view on crass speech (19:1), even aging gracefully (20:29).

God’s word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Ps. 119:105). Without His Word we’re left with our own misconceived ideas and selfish standards. So keep on taking it in! Keep reading, keep listening, keep growing in the grace of His perspective.
