He Will Do It
Today's Through the Bible Reading: 1 Kings 21-22; 2 Chronicles 18
Abbreviated Reading: 1 Kings 21-22
“…Mark my words, all you people!..." 1 Kings 22:28 NIV
God’s plans are steadfast. What He determines to accomplish, He will accomplish. Today we see the steadfastness of our Lord to accomplish His will in a surreal scene. Today’s reading puts into context our humanity and vulnerability in light of God’s divine plans and purposes. God, through the prophet Micaiah, warned King Ahab that he would be killed in combat. Ahab, thinking he could hide from the Maker of heaven and earth, disguised and hid himself in the middle of the battle.
“Now a certain man drew a bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor…" 1 Kings 22:34 NKJV
What appeared to be a “random” act, was in reality God amazingly at work, accomplishing exactly what He had decreed would be Ahab’s fate.
"I know that you God can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted." Job 42:2 NIV
For wicked King Ahab, God’s resolve was anything but a comfort because Ahab was under the wrath of God. But unlike wicked king Ahab, you and I have passed from death to life. Because of Jesus Christ, we are not cursed, but blessed with God’s favor.
“For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:17
As certain as God’s plan was for Ahab, so too is His plan for you. His purpose is to give you a hope and a future (Jer. 29:11). He promises to complete the work He’s begun in you (Phil. 1:6). And He promises that He will work all things together for your good, even if you never see that “good” this side of heaven, it’s a promise that’s still true. But best of all, His plan is to one day take you home to live with Him for all eternity (John 14:3). What a wonderful plan He has, and He will accomplish it!
