Deep Into the Sea
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Micah 4-7
“…You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:19 NKJV
What a promise! God says He will cast our sins into the depths of the sea. What an overwhelming promise. He also says He’ll separate our sins from us as far as the east is from the west (Ps. 103:12). I really like that because you can travel east indefinitely and never end up heading west. Think about it. East and west are indefinitely divided from each other. And what does that say about how far our sins are separated from us? Indefinitely, continually, eternally!
Those filthy sins of ours are vanquished to the bottom of the sea and hurled as far from you and me as can be – in Jesus’ name! Even so, our memory of them can cause us great guilt and shame. The truth is that although God forgives us, we often have a difficult time comprehending how that forgiveness works. Well, thanks be to God for His Word which simply says that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). God’s forgiveness is as sure as eternity – He says so. To illustrate His point, He uses the description of the sea. Now, think through this with me: isn’t it interesting that our gracious God will do away with the sea in eternity. It’s true! That sea that’s figuratively filled with all the worst of humanity, doesn’t even exist in eternity!
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” Revelation 21:1
So know this today, dear Christian, you are forgiven of all your sins (Eph. 1:7; Col. 2:13; 1 John 2:12). They are separated from you as far as the east is from the west – indefinitely; and they are cast to the bottom of the sea – which is done away with for all eternity!
