Good News for the Fearful Heart
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Isaiah 33-35
"Say to those who are fearful-hearted, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come…He will come and save you.’” Isaiah 35:4
Jesus is the very essence of the Scriptures. The Old Testament points to Him and the New Testament reveals Him. And in today’s Bible reading, like in every day’s Bible reading, Jesus is there! Isaiah proclaims the promise of a Redeemer and gives us a grand glimpse into Jesus’ future ministry.
“Say to those who are fearful-hearted, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come…He will come and save you.’ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped…” Isaiah 35:4-5
We know that God kept His promise and He DID come to save us! And while He walked through this world, He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, caused the deaf to hear, and promised everlasting life to those who would forsake theirs to follow Him (John 11:25).
Just like God was faithful to keep His promise to come the first time, He will be faithful to keep His promise to come again! You can count on it, dear Christian – after all, the Bible tells us that these Old Testament Saints serve as encouragement for us New Testament believers - those living in the last days (1 Cor. 10:11). We can know the Lord will keep His promise to come again because He kept His promise to come then! And there will most assuredly be a time, not too far away, when we will walk on the magnificent King's Highway!
“Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert...And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness.. And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” Isaiah 35:6-8, 10
