Sanctification

The process of becoming more like Jesus

Today's Through the Bible Reading: Leviticus 22 - 23

Abbreviated Reading: Leviticus 23

God delivered Israel from Egypt and gave them a new way of living; new standards, new traditions, a new perspective.

You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel. I am the LORD who sanctifies you, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD. Leviticus 22:32-33

God delivered Israel from Egypt, which in the Bible is always symbolic of the world.  Just like He freed Israel, He has freed and delivered us. Praise the Lord we're not bound as slaves to this old world!

God wants to sanctify His people.

Sanctification is withdrawing our fellowship with the world by first gaining fellowship with God. The Bible tells us that if we draw close to Him, He’ll draw close to us. (James 4:8)

Being sanctified is the process of being set apart from sin.

Sanctification means being setting apart: turning our back on sin, leaving behind sin. Sanctification begins with being washed by the water of the Word. As we read about Him, learn His ways, fellowship with Him – we are washed by His Word.

And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11

Being cleaned up, the process of Sanctification, brings joy! Why? Because sanctification is the process of becoming more like Jesus. Sin has pleasure for a moment, but always leads to heartache, sorrow and death (Prov. 16:25; Rom. 6:23).

We are free from sin. It brought us death, but Jesus gives us life. So let’s not hold on to it, be bent on giving in to it, or show affection for it! We are Jesus’ people, free to live for Him.
