God’s Omnipresence

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Jeremiah 23:9-40; Jeremiah 27– 28

"Am I a God near at hand…And not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I cannot see him?...Do I not fill heaven and earth?" Jeremiah 23:23, 24

God is everywhere. We cannot escape His presence or His watchful eye, He is omnipresent. And the truth that God is omnipresent will either comfort you or it will terrify you. Time and time again, David clung to God’s omnipresence as comfort (Ps. 139). On the other hand, Jonah experienced it the hard way when God sent a whale as a means of a course correction – quite literally.

“If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.” Psalm 139:7-10

In today’s reading Jeremiah reflects on God’s greatness and omnipresence. Jeremiah reminds Israel that God’s eyes are always on His people, watching the good, the bad, and the ugly. Jeremiah writes of God’s power and our inability to thwart His plan.

But back to this concept of being either comforted or terrified by God’s omnipresence…if you are born again you are God’s personal treasure which He purchased with His own blood! You are, quite literally, adopted by Him and are now one of His children – quite literally! This means that, like David, God’s omnipresence should bring us great comfort! He is watching over us with the eyes and nail-pierced hands of the Good Shepherd.

“… He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Hebrews 13:5-6

May we be people who take God at His Word so that wherever you find yourself today, may your heart be filled with His presence and the knowledge that He is with you!
