Dry Bones
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Ezekiel 37-39
“…the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.” Ezekiel 37:10
God loves to teach His people using object lessons and demonstrated His truths in the most unforgettable ways. Think about Jeremiah and how God led him to the potter’s house for a personal study session from the clay in the potter’s hands (Jer. 18:1-11). Today’s reading provides another awesome example of the creativity the Lord uses to make His points and teach us about both His character and ways.
It all starts with a graveyard filled with dry bones where the Lord tells Ezekiel to prophecy to “them bones”. And as Ezekiel obeys, the bones began to shake…and rattle…and roll! What a sight that must have been! But God wasn't finished yet because you see, the bones were still dry. They needed life breathed into them in order to be made alive! So God told Ezekiel to prophecy to the bones another time and when he did, God breathed life into them and they rose up as a great army full of life.
“So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.” Ezekiel 37:10
There was another time when the breath of God filled His people with life. It was the day of Pentecost and God filled His disciples with His Holy Spirit. As a result, God’s church was brought to life and rose up as a great army and turned the world up-side-down for His glory (Acts 2:2, 4)!
If your walk is dry and you feel like a pile of dead bones, then ask the Holy Spirit to come and breathe life into you. Just like the Word of God instructed Ezekiel to prophesy to those dry bones, let God’s Word prophecy to your spirit and watch life be breathed into your bones today!
