Brought Into His Family

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Ruth 1-2

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.

Today we’re starting the book of Ruth where we’ll see a picture of Christ’s love for us, His bride on every page! This is an amazing story of a gentile bride, loved by a Jewish man, wooed by kindness and provision, and redeemed by the fulfilling of the law. Wow, sound familiar? That’s our story.

Ephesians chapter 2 and Colossians 2:13 tell us that we were once outsiders, gentiles who were so deeply loved by Christ that He pursued us.

Boaz loved Ruth and as we’ll see, he pursued her with kindness and provision. Jesus so deeply loves us that He bore our iniquities on the cross (1 Pt 2:24) and provides all that we need (Phil 4:19; Acts 14:17).

Boaz had to follow the law in order to gain the “right” to marry Ruth and bring her into his family. Jesus completely fulfilled the law (Matt 5:17) and is the only one able to redeem us from sin (1 Pt 1:18, 19).

Boaz brought Ruth into his family and loved her. As a result, Ruth is in the genealogy of Jesus! She was David’s great-grandmother (Ruth 4:22) and in the direct lineage of Jesus. What a wonderful end to a precious story.

Ruth is in Jesus’ family tree, a gentile brought into God’s family, forever written in His genealogy. We were brought into God’s family, adopted, made heirs with Christ (Rom 8:17), and our names are written in the Lambs book of Life (Luke 10:20; Rev 21:27).

God writes our stories perfectly. He wrote the love story of Ruth and Boaz, His Son being pictured prophetically. He takes just as much care in writing our stories so we can reflect Jesus!
