Today’s Bible Reading: Psalm 97, 98, 99, 100; Haggai 1:1-2:23

”…for He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation…” Psalm 98:1 NIV

The Psalms we read today are remarkable in a particularly special way. As you read the Psalms, you might be inclined to agree that they are beautiful pieces of poetry and powerful songs of praise. But as amazing as poetry and praise are, I’m here to encourage you to see the Psalms for what they so often also are – pictures of the promised Prince of Peace! Let’s look at the Psalms in today’s reading and see the promises and prophecies God graciously provided through this praise.

Salvation promised by His hand.

“…His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation…” Psalm 98:1

Salvation brought by His hand.

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross…” Colossians 2:14

Salvation promised to the nations.

“The LORD has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.” Psalm 98:2

Salvation came to the nations.

”And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” 1 John 2:2

“…Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15

As you read the Psalms, remember they are indeed poetry and praise but they also contain promises pointing to the Prince of Peace. Look for Jesus and like the Psalmist, your heart will fill with praise!
