Today’s Bible Reading: Genesis 3

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15

Jesus is the very essence of the Scriptures. The Old Testament points to Him and the New Testament reveals Him. He can be found on every page and in every story. If we look for Him, we will find Him. After all, He is the Word made flesh (John 1:14).

Jesus Christ is seen throughout the Bible, starting right here at the very beginning! But isn’t the beginning of the Bible the Old Testament? And isn’t Jesus born in the New Testament? Yes and Yes! But remember, the Old Testament is one big picture book sketching out sweet shadows and painting powerful portraits of our Prince of Peace – Jesus Christ. For those with eyes to see, Jesus can be seen throughout the Old Testament…even right here in the very first book of the Bible – Genesis.

Our God is a god who SAVES. Adam and Eve had everything anyone could ever dream of, but then… they sinned. They rebelled against God and the Bible says that in Adam’s sin, all of mankind was destined to sin too (Rom. 5:12). But God, who is rich in mercy, stepped in and provided a remedy – a remedy in the form of a Redeemer who would take the punishment for sin – the sin of the whole world. That Redeemer is seen right here in Genesis 3:15.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15

Jesus Christ is the seed of the woman who would crush the head of the serpent. Because of Him, we are no longer under the curse of sin but are instead children of God. We are joint heirs with Christ and our enemy has been defeated!

In the beginning God’s grace covered Adam and Eve and…this is good news for us, friends: it’s what covers you and me too! His blood washes us white as snow and He is able to bring beauty from the darkest places. So, remember the reality of your situation as you start a new day: God keeps His promises. He provided a Redeemer who crushed the head of Satan and that Redeemer – your Redeemer – He lives!
