Today’s Bible Reading: Ezekiel 32-33; 40:1-27
“…I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me.” Ezekiel 33:7 NKJV
Have you ever had a nightmare that made you wake up in a cold sweat, breathing heavy, and the second you realized it was a dream, there’s sudden relief? I sure have! As a young adult I had a recurring nightmare of just this sort. The setting was usually somewhere dark and spooky and I was always with a group of people that was totally oblivious to the approaching danger. I would try to warn whoever I was with but they just wouldn’t listen. Needless to say, the danger kept coming our way and like I said, I’d wake up with a start and a pounding heart. I laugh (sort of) at that nightmare now, but it was terrifying at the time, no doubt!
Well, for Ezekiel, his nightmare wasn’t a dream at all – it was reality! God had revealed to Ezekiel the danger that was coming and like a watchman on a wall, God told him to sound the alarm. If Israel would have listen, what they would have heard was good news – God had provided a way of escape – repentance!
"…if he turns from his sin ... None of his sins which he has committed shall be remembered…he shall surely live.” Ezekiel 33:14, 16 NKJV
God’s message to you and me is the same. There is good news for the one facing an onslaught of sin: repentance is the way of escape! And like He called Ezekiel to herald His message, He has called you and me to do the same.
“And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
So be that watchman on the wall for your people today, dear messenger from the Lord. He has given you Good News to declare to your countrymen, to your family members, to your own soul. And that Good News is the gospel of Jesus Christ which saves us from sin.
