Who Picks You Up?

Jesus seen in the book of Job

Today’s Throuh the Bible Reading: Job 32:1 - 34:37

Abbreviated Reading: Job 33:23 - 33

"...He is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom." Job 33:24

In today’s Bible reading we find Job looking for a redeemer and a ransom for his life. Knowing God’s promise from the beginning to save man from their sin (Gen 3:15), Job spoke of the ultimate redemption and looked forward to the promised Redeemer.

Before accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we were held captive by our sin (Rm 8:6-8). We owed a debt we could not pay (Rm 6:18-20). But God, who loves us, sent His only Son. Jesus ransomed our life by laying down His own. This was a costly ransom. Jesus paid the price for our sin (Rm 3:24) so we could escape eternal death and live eternally with Him (John 3:16).

For the redemption of their life is costly…That he should continue to live eternally, And not see death. Psalm 49:8, 9

Amazing love!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Jesus is the very essence of the Scriptures. The Old Testament points to Him and the New Testament reveals Him. All through the book of Job we've seen shadow, pictures, prophecies, and seen promises of the Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Here is a closer look at today's reading and glimpse of the promised Messiah, Jesus in the book of Job.

  • Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom. Job 33:24

“Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Matt 20:28

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

“Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” 1 Tim 2:6

  • He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not; He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light. Job 33: 27, 28

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:7-9

Jesus graciously paid the ransom price to rescue us and to provide a way for us to escape sin and eternal death (Matt. 20:28; Rom. 3:24).

Truly, we see shadows of Jesus in the midst of Job’s suffering. Jesus is our Living Hope.

We live in a fallen world and seasons of suffering are a result of the curse. BUT, let the pits of this life remind you today that your ransom has been paid! Jesus has saved you from “going down”. He is gracious and full of compassion. Remember during dim days – God has provided a ransom, you have escaped the pit, and you, my friend, are on your way to live with Him in glory!
