Facing Fear

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Esther 4-8

Have you ever faced fear itself? I mean really stood in the midst of a situation and decided to opt for the Lord's strength and take on the unthinkable? Well, in today’s reading we find Esther facing what was probably the biggest risk of her life. In fact, she was risking life itself to invite the king to dinner. Custom had it, if the king did not request her presence; she could be put to death for approaching him.

So now we understand the importance of the preceding prayer and fasting (Esther 4:15-17).  It took trust in God and courage for Esther to embrace the challenge she faced. The pattern in the book of Esther is so applicable to our Christian walk.

Often we don’t understand why we are where we are or what plan the Lord has for us there, but He ALWAYS has a plan and a purpose (Jer 29:11). As we walk where He has planted our feet, we are then faced with opportunities for obedience and growth. It’s our choice whether we’ll make excuses or accept the opportunity to see God move.

Esther accepted the challenge, sought the Lord through prayer and fasting, and stepped out in faith. God moved mightily on her behalf. Through her willingness a nation was spared. No telling what the Lord wants to do through you! So if a challenge has been placed before you, seek the Lord with all your heart (Jer 29:13); ask for wisdom (James 1:5); go boldly to the throne of grace (Heb 4:16); and then step out in faith and watch as the Lord moves on your behalf.

We serve a mighty God who does mighty things with unmighty people.
