The Right Answer

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Mark 12:18-40; Luke 20:27-47; Luke 10:25-37; Matthew 22:41- 23:36

The Sadducees were religious leaders who did not believe in the resurrection. They were constantly trying to trick Jesus with their questions. Jesus’ response in today’s reading holds a fantastic challenge for us in how we answer questions. Jesus answered the Sadducees with God’s Word.

Jesus answered and said unto them, You do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. ... But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying… Mat 22:29, 31

Jesus first pointed out the Sadducees’ lack of Bible knowledge and then answered their question with Scripture. How often are our opinions or theology based solely on our own ideas or based only on experience? When discussing an issue, do we reach for our Bible for the answer? This is what Jesus did and what He tells us to do as well.

Next time you are in a discussion and giving an opinion, ask yourself if you can back it up with a verse.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

God's Word holds absolute truth, it keeps our thoughts right and gives a firm foundation for opinions, doctrine, and daily conduct (2 Tim. 3:16).
