Debt Free

Today's Through the Bible Reading: Proverbs 14 - 15

Abbreviated Reading: Proverbs 14

A good person badly desires to right their wrongs. The Bible tells us so.

“Fools mock at the guilt offering, but the upright enjoy acceptance.” Proverbs 14:9 ESV

God’s Word shines light on the motives of the heart. Here in Proverbs we’re taught that the fool mocks at making amends for sin or another translations says, makes light of guilt. God’s Word tells us that sin cannot be ignored and it certainly is no laughing matter. In fact, we’re warned that the wages (or price tag) for sin is death (Rom. 6:23). And since we’re all sinners, that’s bad news. But, as Christians, we know the GOOD NEWS…

Jesus paid that price for us on the cross (Rom. 4:25, 5:9). Through the blood of Jesus Christ, God forgives us and declares us not guilty and we can live “debt free” (Isa. 61:10; Acts 13:39; Rom. 3:24-26).

Because of Jesus...

  • We are cleansed from all sin (1 John 1:7).

  • God remembers our sin no more (Heb. 10:17).

  • We’re freed from the power of sin (1 Cor. 10:13).

  • We have peace with God (Rom. 5:1).

  • We have a clean conscience (Heb. 9:14).

  • We’re justified freely by His grace (Rom. 3:24, 6:18).

  • We’re made new (Rom. 6:6; 2 Cor. 5:17).

  • We’re born again (John 3:3; Acts 26:18; Eph. 4:24; 1 Peter 1:23).

  • We have eternal life (John 3:16)!

The fool mocks at his need for atonement and Christ’s provision. But that is not you, my friend! You know the precious price that was paid as a result of your shortcomings. Those shortcomings were not paid for with corruptible silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:19). Your account has been satisfied and now you are debt free indeed!
