Who is Wisdom

Today's Through the Bible Reading: Proverbs chapters 2-4

Abbreviated Reading: Proverbs 2

“Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.” Proverbs 2:9

We are now diving headlong into the Proverbs. The book of Proverbs is packed full of proven and profound advice. If you are looking for a crash course in leadership, this is your book. If you are looking for comfort in a difficult situation, this is your book. If you are in over your head at work, this is your book. If something is burdening your heart and you don’t know what to do or even how to seek direction, this is your book.  And above all, if you want WISDOM, this is most definitely your book!

As we have seen throughout our journey in the Old Testament, Jesus is in every lesson and on every page. If we look for Him, we will find Him for the Bible says about Him: “Lo, I come in the volume of the book it is written of me.” (Ps. 40:7). God gave His people Israel, Old Testament believers, the law to point them to the Messiah (Gal. 3:24). He gives us, New Testament believers, the Old Testament so we can look back and see His plan from the beginning, perfectly fulfilled in and through Jesus Christ.

The book of Proverbs is no exception – Jesus is there! He is Wisdom personified and if you seek Him, you will find Him and His wisdom because we read in Colossians 2:3 that in Christ are “hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”.

When you find wisdom spoken of in the Proverbs, you can confidently replace it with “Jesus Christ” and you will gain a deeper description of our Savior and the depth of the riches we find in Him.

“Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding… She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.” Proverbs 3:13, 18
