Nothing Left Undone
Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Joshua 10–12
Abbreviated Reading: Joshua 10
In today’s reading we find Joshua entering battle after battle, but it’s the Lord who fights for him. Joshua and Israel marched all night, maneuvered troops, used their swords, and set siege to cities. BUT ultimately, it was God who won every battle for them.
Whether by hail (Josh 10:11); the sun standing still (Josh 10:13), or divine instructions (Josh 11:6), it was God who intervened and with a mighty hand and outstretched arm defeated every one of Israel’s enemies. (Ps 136:12)
Joshua is a type and picture of Jesus and as such, we can REJOICE that the Bible tells us, “and Joshua did it; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded.” (Josh 11:15)
Praise the LORD because our precious, mighty Jesus did it! He left NOTHING undone! He conquered sin and death and redeemed our lives. Our enemy has been defeated.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 1 Corinthians 15:55
Joshua chapter 11 ends with, “then the land had rest from war.” Joshua fought the battles and as a result the land had rest. Jesus says to us,
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:29
As God was going before Israel into battle, intervening, and leading them to victory – they still had to pick up their swords and use them. God has gone before us, Jesus won the victory, but we still have battles to fight. Ephesians 6 makes that explicitly clear.
So, pick up His Word which is the sword of the Spirit, and watch as He brings victory and we’ll find rest for our weary souls.
