Your Life is Different

The change Jesus brings

Today's Through the Bible Reading: Leviticus 19 - 21

Abbreviated Reading: Leviticus 19

“I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:3

Although we may still live in this world, we no longer belong to it. That’s exactly what God was reminding Israel of in today’s reading.

We're Christians now, followers of Jesus. We were spiritually dead and full of sin, but we've been born again (John 3:3). We’re new creations in Christ. Old things are passed away and all things made new (2 Corinthians 5:17).  We have a new citizenship – HEAVEN and we’re on our way home.

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:20

God brought Israel out of Egypt (like He brought us out of the world). In today's reading, God reminds them not to live like they did when in Egypt and gives them a new way of life.

So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life. Leviticus 18:3 (NLT)

…I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt. Leviticus 19:36

God cares about our conduct and the way we choose to either imitate His Son or the world around us. How we walk, talk, dress, and act is a reflection of our affection.

“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.… For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.… And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” Ephesians 5:1, 8–11 nkjv

Leviticus is Israel's story, but Ephesians chapter 2 is ours.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Eph 2:8-10

Today my fellow sojourner, be an imitator of Christ. Be obedient to walk in His marvelous light and, in so doing, light up the dark world around you.
