Noah, Beyond the Ark

A Picture of Jesus

Today’s Through the Bible Reading: Genesis 6–9

Abbreviated Reading: Genesis 7

“And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.” Genesis 7:1

What a powerful picture of our Salvation we see in the account of Noah and the ark is! God extended glorious grace to Noah by giving him a way to escape God’s righteous judgment on a wicked world. Noah however, had to first pick up his hammer and do the job God called him to do.

“And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.” Genesis 7:5

There is a story of another carpenter who finished the work God gave Him to do. But this carpenter is better than Noah because He’s the Master Carpenter, our precious Jesus who took the nails we were supposed to take and did the work of redemption for us.

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us…and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross;” Colossians 2:14

By obeying God’s plan and finishing the work God gave him to do, Noah escaped the judgment of the flood and was kept safe through the storm. Through Christ’s obedience to finish the job God gave Him to do, we too have escaped judgment.

“…so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” Romans 5:19

So, dear reader, whatever “storm” you find yourself in the midst of - know that the Master Carpenter, Jesus has fashioned our Salvation - you are safe and sound under the shadow of His wings. And as you pick up whatever "hammer" or tool the Lord has put in your hand today, be faithful and obedient to do the work God has called you to for His glory; but remember, Christ has finished the one work that really matters – the work of Redemption! It is finished!
